In a staggering short amount of time, the domestic box office records have been rewritten as Star Wars: The Force Awakens has dethroned Avatar as the highest grossing movie ever.

With a $34.4 million Friday, Star Wars: Episode VII – The Force Awakens not only overtook Jurassic World ($652.2 million) to be 2015’s highest grossing film, but also knocked off Titanic as the No. 2 highest grossing movie of all-time.

Star Wars: Episode VII – The Force Awakens isn’t taking a slumber anytime soon as it continues to set new box office records. At its current pace, it could overtake Avatar as the all-time highest grossing film by this time next week.

As major as that success was for Walt Disney Pictures just two years ago, it’s starting to seem like Star Wars: The Force Awakens wasn’t getting enough credit for its potential impact on box office records.

James Cameron’s stranglehold on the top two spots on the all-time highest grossing list may be coming to a close thanks to Rey, Finn, Poe and BB-8.

In setting a new record for best worldwide opening weekend, Star Wars: The Force Awakens has begun stirring up interests with box office forecasters of this being the chosen one to displace Titanic ($658.6 million) and record holder Avatar ($760.5 million).

For the all-time U.K. box office at least. “Skyfall” has already brought in $117.1 million and should knock James Cameron’s blockbuster off its $150 million perch, in two to three more weeks. In the U.S., its total has now reached $109.1 million to come in at #433 on the all-time list. It should easily reach $150 million by the weekend and $250 million isn’t that big a stretch so look for it to continue climbing the charts.

Worldwide, it’s now in the #90 all-time highest grossing spot with $538.7 million and should eclipse “Quantum of Solace,” which sits at #76 with $586.1 million in days and top #72 “Casino Royale’s” $599 million take by the end of the weekend. It’s safe to assume “The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 2” should win the box office in the U.S., but it will be interesting to see how far “Skyfall” slips in its second week since “Twilight” and “Skyfall” are definitely not competing for the same audience.
