The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 2 – Some people will hate on this series just because it seems like the thing to do, but for those who can lay off the sarcasm triggers long enough, this final installment of the “Twilight:” series was a lot of fun with one of the best fake-out scenes I’ve seen in years. This also has a special release date so instead of the normal Tuesday, it’s coming out this Friday just in case you were planning on camping out in front of Best Buy or Target to get it tomorrow. Daniel Craig stars as James Bond in “SKYFALL.”

1.  Skyfall – $11 million [$261 million; 5th week] – The  highest grossing Bond film reclaimed the top spot in a bit of a surprise, just like next week when “The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey” arrives and takes the top spot next week. 1.The  Twilight Saga – Breaking Dawn: Part 2 – $17.4 million [$254 million; 3rd week] – Thanksgiving was a week ago, but leftovers remain the main theme for this weekend’s box office. “BD2” continued its reign atop the box office for a third week. Edward, Bella and Jacob should easily enjoy a fourth week on top with another round of weak newcomers before it drops to #2 once “The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey” opens Dec. 14. It’s #76 on the all-time domestic gross and could reach $275 million total. Box office roundup – Nov. 18, 2012 – Twilight finale wins easily

Bella (Kristen Stewart) bonds with Renesmee (MacKenzie Foy) as Edward (Robert Pattinson) and Jacob (Taylor Lautner) look on.

1. The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 2 – $141 million [debut week] – There should have  been no shock that the final installment of the episodes of Bella, Edward  and Jacob was this week’s #1, but surprisingly this wasn’t the best opening for the franchise.  “Star Wars:  Episode III – Revenge of the Sith” ended the last Star Wars trilogy easily ahead of “Star Wars: Episode II – Attack of the Clones’” $80 million      opening and far outpaced “Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace’s” $64 million haul. Review: The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 2

Andrew Cooper/Summit Entertainment
Edward (Robert Pattinson) shows Bella (Kristen Stewart) the tricks of being a vampire.

The “Twilight” movie franchise has always followed a simple formula. Go heavy on the hottie factor, dramatic declarations of love and a brief fight that hints at some potentially epic action if the filmmakers ever let us see the vampire vs. vampire vs. werewolf battle we’ve only been teased with since the beginning.

And while “The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 2,” gets off to a slow start and seems to be treading along the same acceptable, if not terribly exciting ground of the four films before it, the franchise finally shakes the shackles of being just a teen love story and ramps the action up for a finale that both rewards longtime fans with the most satisfying conclusion possible while providing a spectacular main event style brawl for action junkies. “Skyfall” set to top “Avatar”

Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Pictures/Columbia Pictures/EON Productions
James Bond (Daniel Craig) in an explosive shootout in “Skyfall.”

For the all-time U.K. box office at least. “Skyfall” has already brought in $117.1 million and should knock James Cameron’s blockbuster off its $150 million perch, in two to three more weeks. In the U.S., its total has now reached $109.1 million to come in at #433 on the all-time list. It should easily reach $150 million by the weekend and $250 million isn’t that big a stretch so look for it to continue climbing the charts.

Worldwide, it’s now in the #90 all-time highest grossing spot with $538.7 million and should eclipse “Quantum of Solace,” which sits at #76 with $586.1 million in days and top #72 “Casino Royale’s” $599 million take by the end of the weekend. It’s safe to assume “The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 2” should win the box office in the U.S., but it will be interesting to see how far “Skyfall” slips in its second week since “Twilight” and “Skyfall” are definitely not competing for the same audience.
