White House Down – Channing Tatum/Jamie Foxx starred in the year’s second White House under siege movie (after the far better received “Olympus Has Fallen” raced out to theaters first in March) and it was a clear second best on all accounts. Critics were split giving it 50% on rottentomatoes.com and audiences weren’t in love with the prospect of deja vu either. It only managed a chump $73 million off its $150 million budget. The Bridge Direct reveals exclusive San Diego Comic-Con “The Hobbit” figure

I’m still not all that into “The Hobbit,” but I did really enjoy the main villain and the gang at The Bridge Direct is making him this year’s San Diego Comic-Con exclusive. Better start making friends going so I can snag one!

From TBD:

7” tall Orc Commander Azog comes in a numbered, limited edition of 2,600 pieces. Azog is depicted as he appears in the prologue scene from The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey. In the battle between the dwarves and an army of orcs to reclaim Moria, Azog holds the severed head of the dwarf King Thror up in victory. The figure comes with interchangeable hands – the right hand that holds Thror’s head can be replaced with a hand capable of holding either his dagger or mace, and the left hand can be switched with the prosthetic spikes that replaced the hand he lost to Thorin’s sword.

I wasn’t all that impressed with Peter Jackson’s first return to Middle Earth in “The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey,” but I’m still anticipating his second installment, “The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug.”

Evangeline Lilly as Tauriel

That’s largely because we’re going to see the return of some kick-tail Elven warriors, including everyone’s favorite Legolas (Orlando Bloom). He’s going to be joined this time by Evangeline Lilly’s (“Lost“) Tauriel, a new character written in to the Hobbit universe by Jackson and his co-writers Fran Walsh and Philippa Boyens. The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey – Peter Jackson returned to Middle Earth with this prequel to his Oscar-winning “Lord of the Rings” saga. While it had solid 3D, Bilbo Baggins’ story wasn’t as exciting as Jackson’s LOTR films and feels like one book stretched out to three films.
