Star Wars review – the greatest standalone sci-fi of them all

Star Wars is one of those rare films it’s impossible to exaggerate its significance to Hollywood and its impact on pop culture.

Not only did it revolutionize the sci-fi genre, launch Harrison Ford to superstardom, introduce the greatest movie villain ever and made “May the Force Be With You” into a legendary quote, but it’s also one of the finest movies ever made.

Among the highlights for me was Harrison Ford and Billy Dee Williams reconnecting and seeing the new cast members reveling in the excitement and the fanfare of their hard work.

Star Wars … sigh, Star Wars: Episode IV – A New Hope, is the greatest standalone science-fiction movie of all time. It tells a complete story and you can enjoy it without watching another second of Luke Skywalker, Han Solo, Darth Vader, R2-D2 and company.

But in doing so, you’d deprive yourself of the greatest sci-fi film of all time — Star Wars: Episode V – The Empire Strikes Back — no qualifiers necessary. This is a generation-influencing masterpiece the likes of which we’ve rarely seen since.
