Star Wars review – the greatest standalone sci-fi of them all

Star Wars is one of those rare films it’s impossible to exaggerate its significance to Hollywood and its impact on pop culture.

Not only did it revolutionize the sci-fi genre, launch Harrison Ford to superstardom, introduce the greatest movie villain ever and made “May the Force Be With You” into a legendary quote, but it’s also one of the finest movies ever made. Star Wars Episode I – The Phantom Menace review

Try to introduce a newbie to the Star Wars saga by starting with The Phantom Menace and you may be out of luck in getting them to invest in future installments of a franchise set in a galaxy far, far away.

The Empire Strikes Back review – still the best Star Wars film

Star Wars … sigh, Star Wars: Episode IV – A New Hope, is the greatest standalone science-fiction movie of all time. It tells a complete story and you can enjoy it without watching another second of Luke Skywalker, Han Solo, Darth Vader, R2-D2 and company.

But in doing so, you’d deprive yourself of the greatest sci-fi film of all time — Star Wars: Episode V – The Empire Strikes Back — no qualifiers necessary. This is a generation-influencing masterpiece the likes of which we’ve rarely seen since. Continue reading The Empire Strikes Back review – still the best Star Wars film

George Lucas says the force is with J.J. Abrams for “Star Wars: Episode VII”

George Lucas Star WarsJ.J. Abrams has been getting a lot of love as being the ideal successor to take over the Star Wars franchise starting with “Episode VII” and he’s got another big fan in Star Wars creator George Lucas himself.

In an interview with Access Hollywood, Lucas shared his thoughts on the future of the franchise under Abrams’ direction.

“Yeah, [I’m excited]. J.J.’s a great director and we’re friends,” Lucas said. “I think he understands the whole thing and how it works.”

For those prequel haters who may be concerned that Lucas will be overly involved, he says he will have very limited involvement if at all.

“If they need help or anything, they’ll give me a call,” he said. “Otherwise, I’m off on my own.”
